Jason Cleveland

Chief Technology Officer

Jason Cleveland, Ph.D. is the Chief Technology Officer at SomaLogic. He joined SomaLogic as a consultant and later became a principal research fellow. His work at SomaLogic is focused on near-term improvements to the SomaScan® Platform as well as technologies to miniaturize the SomaScan Assay to propel it towards patient-focused proteomics. He has more than 25 years of experience as a technology innovator of scientific instruments.

Prior to joining SomaLogic, Dr. Cleveland was the Co-Founder, Chairman and later, Chief Executive Officer of Asylum Research in Santa Barbara, California, a manufacturer of atomic force microscopes that was sold to Oxford Instruments. As a hands-on CEO, he was heavily involved in the design of the Cypher AFM, which is still the quietest, fastest and most stable research atomic force microscope in the world with an installed base of more than 1,000 instruments. He began his career at Digital Instruments, which was the largest atomic force microscope company at the time.

Dr. Cleveland received his bachelor’s degrees in math and physics from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities where he was a Goldwater Scholar. He received his doctorate in physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and an author on over 40 scientific publications and an inventor on nearly 50 patents. He also serves as the chairman of DE-CRUIT, a non-profit treating trauma in veterans through Shakespeare and science.
