PRESENTATION
Application of Proteomics Within a Large-Scale Prospective Cohort to Identify Novel Biomarkers for Chronic Diseases
Thursday 25 January | 12:00-12:30 p.m. | Location: Other Stage
Presenter: Professor Marc Gunter
Chair in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention
Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research Unit
School of Public Health
Imperial College London
High dimensional proteomic profiling within large-scale prospective cohorts has the potential to uncover novel biomarkers of chronic diseases and diagnostic markers, as well as aid understanding of etiologic pathways. Within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC), a longitudinal cohort of >500,000 Europeans, Dr. Gunter recently applied SomaScan® Assay technology to ~18,000 participants within a case-cohort setting with cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mortality endpoints. In this presentation, Dr. Gunter will provide an overview of the study design and some preliminary findings with a focus on cancer outcomes.
