BREAKFAST SEMINAR

Comprehensive proteomics using the SomaScan® 11K Assay: Identification of biomarkers for differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease subtypes and prediction of therapeutic response to biologics

Monday, March 11  |  7:15-8:15 a.m.  |  Location: Multnomah Room (Level 1)

Presenter: Towia Libermann, PhD

  • Associate Professor of Medicine
  • Director, BIDMC Genomics, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, and Systems Biology Center
  • Director, DF/HCC Cancer Proteomics Core
  • Div. of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Biotechnology
  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Dr. Libermann’s team has been using the SomaScan Platform to discover diagnostic serum and mucosal biopsy biomarkers capable of differentiating between pediatric Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), as well as UC with and without primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).

In a multicenter, prospective trial of children treated with the TNF inhibitor infliximab, they identified serum proteins that are highly associated with response to infliximab and accurately predict response prior to treatment.
